General Dentistry
General dentistry refers to all of the procedures that are performed by a dentist. These include fillings (tooth-colored), crowns (or “caps”), bridges, implants, root canal therapy, periodontal treatment (gum treatment), removal of teeth, orthodontics (Invisalign), TMJ - bite problems, and cosmetic procedures (whitening, veneers, Lumineers).
Resin Fillings
Resins are tooth-colored fillings that bond to the teeth and blend-in so that they are undetectable to view. They are a superior alternative to amalgam (or metal) fillings in that they wear similar to natural teeth, they bond to teeth (unlike amalgams) and they match the color of the teeth.
Crowns
A crown, also referred to as a “cap” is a restoration that completely covers the prepared tooth. These are primarily used when the teeth have large fillings, have been treated with root canal therapy, have had large cavities in them, or their position needs to be altered to improve straightness or symmetry.
Onlays
An onlay is a lab processed restoration that is used on back teeth when the damage caused by decay or fracture is too large to place a filling, but not large enough to require a crown. Because the new adhesives are so strong, the onlay actually unites the remaining walls of the tooth, giving it the strength it once had before the damage was done.
Bridges
A bridge is a fixed or cemented alternative to a removable partial denture and it replaces a missing tooth or teeth. Crowns are fabricated over the adjacent teeth, or over implants, and are attached to a replacement tooth or teeth. These crowns support the replacement tooth. It thus “bridges” a gap in the mouth. This non-removable option gives the look, feel and function of natural teeth.
